
In Alameda County, FSNEP addresses the needs of economically challenged children, in grades Pre K- High School, through the integration of nutrition and gardening concepts. Using the Train the Trainers Model, FSNEP Program Representatives provide educators with trainings on the use of Nutrition Based Garden Education curriculum and provide resources to support garden-based learning. FSNEP in Alameda County also provides support in Building Community-Based Food Systems to enhance Community Food Security.
Youth FSNEP is administered by the University of California, Davis Campus, implemented by UC Cooperative Extension offices and funded by the United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) through an interagency agreement with the California Department of Social Services (CDSS).
The Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP) is a federally funded program to address the nutrition education needs of California youth who are eligible.
UCCE representatives provide training, technical assistance, and consultation.
